Best Time to Visit St Vincent and the Grenadines

December to May for dry, breezy perfection — but every month has its case.

SVG is warm all year: daytime highs of around 28–31 °C and a sea that rarely drops below 26 °C. What changes is rain, wind and hurricane risk. The short answer is mid-December to May, the dry season, when trade winds keep it fresh and sailing conditions are ideal.

Dry season: mid-December to May

The best months. Rain is light and brief, humidity is lower and the northeast trade winds blow steadily — perfect for sailing the Grenadines and comfortable for hiking La Soufrière. It is also high season, so book flights, yachts and the best hotels well ahead, especially for Christmas, New Year and Easter.

Rainy season: June to November

Showers are usually heavy but short, with plenty of sunshine between. The landscape on St Vincent is at its greenest and waterfalls are at their fullest. Prices drop and many places are quiet — though some smaller businesses close for a few weeks, typically in September and October.

Hurricane season

The Atlantic hurricane season runs officially from 1 June to 30 November, peaking from mid-August to mid-October. SVG sits towards the southern edge of the main hurricane belt and direct hits are uncommon, but they happen: in July 2024 Hurricane Beryl, an unusually early Category 4 storm, devastated Union Island, Mayreau and Canouan. If you travel in these months, buy travel insurance that covers hurricanes, book flexible rates and keep an eye on forecasts.

Volcano note: La Soufrière’s alert level is independent of the seasons. Whatever month you travel, check the current status with NEMO before planning the hike — and plan the climb for the early morning, when the summit is most often clear.

Events worth planning around

  • Mustique Blues Festival — traditionally held in late January or early February; check current dates.
  • Bequia Easter Regatta — Easter weekend, the Grenadines’ biggest sailing party.
  • Vincy Mas — Kingstown carnival, late June to early July.
  • Nine Mornings — 16–24 December, pre-dawn street parties and concerts.

Best time for…

  • Sailing: January to May, with steady trade winds.
  • Hiking: February to April, when trails are driest.
  • Snorkelling and turtles: year-round; calmest seas often from April to June.
  • Budget travel: May, June and November.
